Sometimes a chance meeting in a bathroom is all it takes. Aroa (María Valverde) lives on the outskirts of a small town in Navarra, working full-time and enduring a nightmarish, abusive family life. She soon stumbles into Miquela (Bruna Cusí), a girl passing through who’s been hired by a wind energy company. The two women are forever changed when they decide to take a road trip together from Spain to Portugal, where what begins as an otherworldly escapade forged in compassion quickly reveals secrets and truths that will shake them to the core.
The ever accomplished Alberto Arvelo brings his stunning new piece of work to Tribeca where every frame feels like a painting onto itself. Backed by a walloping score composed by Grammy Award-winner Gustavo Dudamel, the piece presents a nuanced reality that is both haunting and beautiful; while an exploration of the unpredictable nature of human beings, the film is also a letter about love and sympathy.—Casey Baron
